OUTSTANDING SUCCESS for ENGLAND at AUSTRALIAN OPEN

England's Commonwealth Games players took the Aussie Open by storm in Shepparton, Victoria. Consistent performances throughout the tournament, together with a masterful display in the final by Mervyn King and Stuart Airey saw them take the Pairs title with an impressive 11-3, 12-3 scoreline, whilst equally impressive team colleague Graham Shadwell lost out in the final of the prestigious singles to tournament favourite Aaron Sheriff by the narrowest of margins - 9-8,7-7.
Add to that a semi final place for Sian Gordon and Amy Monkhouse in the ladies pairs, and quarter final slots for Robert Newman, Sam Tolchard and Mark Bantock, and Natalie Melmore, Ellen Falkner and Amy Monkhouse in the triples. Last 16 appearances too for Amy Monkhouse and Jamie-Lea Winch all made for a very successful participation in this popular world class event. The experience and success achieved in the Open, together with the subsequent Test win against Australia, has further enhanced England's preparation for Delhi and has built strongly on their success at the Atlantic Championships in South Africa last year.
